NSW:Pensioner seriously hurt after bashing
SYDNEY, Dec 1 AAP - An 87-year-old woman remains in a serious condition after two men
broke into her home, threw her to the floor and kicked and bashed her about the head with
her own walking stick.
The elderly woman has swelling and bruising to the head, lungs and back following the
incident in North St Marys, western Sydney, about 1.30am (AEDT) on Wednesday.
She remains at Nepean Hospital where further tests are due to be carried out to establish
the full extent of her injuries.
She did not suffer any fractured bones, Superintendent Ray Filewood said.
The woman was home alone at the time of the incident and went to her back door after
hearing a disturbance.
"As she's approached them (the intruders) they've actually pushed her to the floor
and taken her walking stick and actually assaulted her over the head ... and one of the
persons has kicked her," Supt Filewood told Fairfax Radio Network.
The woman raised the alarm through a system installed in her home, he added.
The two intruders wore dark clothing and boots, and stole a plasma television from
the home in Oleander Road before fleeing.
